1970 Plymouth Notes

The aero Superbird -- roughly 1,935 built for U.S. dealers -- added a pointed nose cone and tall rear wing for NASCAR homologation and helped lure Richard Petty back to Plymouth; only about 135 got the 426 Hemi.
The performance 'Cuda used a 383 cu in V8 as standard and ranged up to the 426 Hemi (425 hp) and the 440 Six-Barrel (390 hp).
Plymouth marketed its muscle lineup -- Road Runner, GTX, 'Cuda and Duster 340 -- under the 'Rapid Transit System' banner.
The one-year-only AAR 'Cuda (2,724 built, released March 1970) honored Dan Gurney's All American Racers SCCA Trans-Am team and used a 340 Six-Barrel rated at 290 hp.
1970 brought the all-new E-body Barracuda, styled by John E. Herlitz on a shorter, wider platform shared with the Dodge Challenger; total Barracuda production was 55,499.
